Analogue or digital – which mixer is right for you?
Analogue consoles win on directness: one knob, one function – ideal for learning and for fast results in the rehearsal room. Digital desks bundle effects, routing and scene memory into one unit and can often be controlled remotely from a tablet – handy when you want to dial in the sound from the stage or from the audience. The right type depends on the job: a fixed setup with few sources is often served well by an analogue desk, while changing acts and complex shows are where digital shines.
The right size: count your channels
Before buying, count what actually gets plugged in – microphones, instruments, playback devices – and add headroom for the future. Then think about the buses you need: monitor mixes for the band, aux sends for effects, subgroups for the drums. Better to plan one size up than to ration channels at the next gig.
