Kali Audio presents the IN-5 3-way 5″ nearfield monitor as a precise monitoring system for smaller rooms. The further development of the successful LP series has a sophisticated bass reflex system with a level-resistant woofer. Instead of the usual tweeter with 3D imaging waveguides, however, a coaxial midrange/tweeter combination has been installed here. The profile-optimised 4″ midrange driver also functions as a waveguide. By limiting the peak excursion to 1 mm, intermodulation distortion, which otherwise occurs in coaxial systems, could be avoided. The midrange driver also relieves the woofer and tweeter, so the IN-5 plays more harmoniously and with less distortion than conventional 2-way studio monitors.The crossover frequency of the woofer is 280 Hz, turning the IN-5 into an acoustic point source. Phase cancellations on the vertical axis will be sought in vain here. Instead, the IN-5 has an even dispersion behaviour over the entire frequency response with excellent depth graduation and localisation. The stereo image also benefits from the coaxial arrangement and enables a detailed mix. Thanks to the "Boundary EQ" familiar from the LP series, the IN-5 can be adapted to different studio environments just as easily as its sister models.
