From tuning the guitar and correct posture to chords, fingerpicking, scales and the basics of harmony - everything that is important for the guitarist is covered here. Simple strumming patterns and pentatonic riffs are covered as well as playing techniques for blues, rock 'n' roll and metal. Each lesson contains exercises and technical tips so that the material can be learnt easily. All exercises and pieces are in notation with tablature. Additional detailed photos explain the playing techniques presented in detail and step by step. With the fingering chart and the scale appendix (in clear diagrams), you also have a small guitar encyclopaedia always to hand. The comprehensive appendix introduces the most important guitar models and provides useful tips for choosing the right guitar and accessories. The accompanying audio CD (also available as an audio download) contains the most important exercises and pieces from the book and is a valuable aid when practising. Phil Capone studied guitar at Newcastle College and at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music in London. As well as teaching at the Guitar Institute and the King Albert School in London, he writes regularly for Total Guitar Magazine and is a well-known figure on the London jazz scene, both solo and with his own quintet.
