only one dongle is required for all Steinberg products
Price advantage by eliminating the additional dongle for VST instruments
easy access to fully equipped demo versions of Steinberg's most important applications
The Steinberg Key (USB-eLicenser) is a copy protection plug (also known as a "dongle") that is required to operate Steinberg software. The Steinberg Key (USB-eLicenser) is already included with the full versions of the host applications Cubase 5, Nuendo 4 and WaveLab 6. For updates and VST instruments, it must be purchased separately if you do not yet have a Steinberg Key (USB-eLicenser).
The Steinberg Key (USB-eLicenser) is actually a small computer on which your Steinberg software licences are stored. It is connected to the USB port of your audio computer. All current Steinberg products that are protected with a copy protection plug use the same type of dongle and it is possible to store more than one licence on one Steinberg Key (USB-eLicenser). Licences can also be transferred (within certain limits) between Steinberg Keys (USB-eLicenser). This is useful if you want to sell a certain software, for example.
