The Schoeps CMIT 5 is a shotgun microphone with a very balanced sound character. It produces exceptionally low colouration of laterally incident sound and thus forgives small errors when fishing. The CMIT also has a strong directional effect with low wind sensitivity. The microphone has three sound processing functions that can be activated. The treble boost (+5 dB at 10 kHz) improves speech intelligibility and compensates for the attenuation of wind deflectors. A steep-edged low-cut filter (18 dB/oct. at 80 Hz) suppresses low-frequency wind and fishing noises. A soft low-cut filter (6 dB/oct. at 300 Hz) compensates for the proximity effect.
