Equipped with the same ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology that is also used in the high-quality MOTU AVB audio interfaces, for example, the M4 delivers an astonishing dynamic range of 120 dB at its main outputs.
This is made possible by the high-quality ESS converters, which are also used for the headphone output. Crystal-clear preamps generate a measured value of -129 dBu EIN at the microphone inputs. You will hardly find a better sound in this price range.
The M4 offers latency-free monitoring of the live inputs (microphone, guitar or line signals). The ultra-fast USB driver from MOTU enables a round-trip latency of 2.5 ms (32 sample buffers at 96 kHz). When recording and mixing, nothing is more critical than achieving optimum levels. The M4 is the only audio interface in its class with a 160 x 120 pixel colour LCD display with clear, detailed level meters for all inputs and outputs. There is no better and more accurate level display.
The M4 driver provides loopback channels for your host computer, so you can send the overall mix back to the computer at the audio outputs. This allows you to stream computer audio in the mix with live microphones and/or guitar inputs to YouTube or a podcast platform, for example. Streaming and podcasting has never been easier and better! With a standard USB-C power supply, the M4 can be used as a standalone preamp and basic mixer without the need for a host computer. Simply activate the monitor button for each input (and 48V phantom power if required) and adjust the preamp gain as required. Connect the main outputs to any device with a line input, such as powered speakers or a mixer.
