The Fender ® American Vintage II series is not only visually inspired by the historic designs that have made music history. We have also faithfully reproduced many period-specific details: bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes, as well as pickups that have been carefully tuned to match the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, every instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of its respective original model.
Don Randall at Fender Sales was not content to rest on his laurels. He pushed for the development of a modern, high-end bass. The result was the Jazz Bass ®, which is now regarded as an icon. The neck was narrow at the nut, allowing for fast and fluid playing. The body was also slimmed down and given the famous ‘offset’ waist and the contours of the Jazzmaster ®. By 1966, the instrument’s evolution had reached its peak.
The American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass, with its hard rock maple neck in a substantial U-profile, offers plenty of substance for the fretting hand. Vintage tall frets sit on the 7.25” round-lam rosewood fingerboard. Typical of the 1966 production year, this J-Bass ® features white neck binding, Perloid dots, ‘lollipop’ tuning machines, two volume controls with a master tone control, a colour-matched headstock and a four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard. The strings run over four threaded string saddles, whilst the sound is delivered by two Pure Vintage ‘66 Jazz Bass pickups.
The American Vintage II series brings back classic Fender models in their original form. Ideal for musicians who love our vintage tone and the feel that goes with it, and who appreciate the highest quality – right down to the very last screw. Fender American Vintage II. The stuff legends are made of.
