ABOUT PASCAL THIELEN

Pascal Thielen is a German studio and live drummer, audio & mixing engineer and teacher and educator. He studied at the Popakademie Mannheim and had lessons with Udo Dahmen, Lui Ludwig, Jost Nickel, Florian Alexandru-Zorn and Moritz Müller, among others. His style focuses on musicality, feel, precision and sound, combining drumming inspired by the 70s and 80s with a modern approach.

Pascal uses his expertise in drum sound and mixing in remote recording sessions worldwide for artists looking for the next step in drum sound and playing quality for their songs.

In addition to his work with numerous bands and artists, including Peter Maffay, Jens Gilles, Elysia Biro, MICHAL, The Les Clöchards, Shelly Phillips and LEYF, Pascal also works for the Art of Drumming YouTube channel, where he is the man behind the "Recreating Iconic Drum Sounds" videos.

These videos have over 11 million clicks in total and are the inspiration for Pascal's new concept for drum sound and recording workshops, which he has been running since 2023.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

In this workshop, Pascal will take you through the entire process from the drum through the microphone to the subsequent mixing.

The focus will be on the following topics:

Sound design on the drum set
Miking
Mixing

Two different drum sounds will be recorded live and then mixed so they could be heard in modern songs. The DAW will be projected live onto a screen. During the workshop, Pascal will also give numerous valuable tips on topics such as tuning, head selection, playing techniques, miking and, of course, mixing - a must for anyone who wants to take their drum recording skills to a new level.
