A legend returns: Passive reference speakers Auratone 5C Super Sound Cube with ultra-precise stereo image available again for the first time

More than 40 years after the legendary reference loudspeakers called 5C Super Sound Cube began their triumphal march through professional recording studios, the successful sound cubes are finally available again. Company founder Jack Wilson developed the one-way monitors in 1974 and ceased production in 1990. Since then, the Auratones have only been available second-hand, highly sought-after and at high prices. But now both the Auratone company and its most famous product are back - thanks to Wilson's grandson Alex Jacobsen.

Big sound from small cubes:

In the 70s and 80s, the Auratone 5C Super Sound Cubes became an insider tip among professional sound engineers and musicians. The list of famous fans who also used the reference loudspeakers for private music enjoyment is long and impressive - from Quincy Jones to Frank Zappa and the Beach Boys. Today, as then, it is amazing what the one-way monitors achieve despite their compact size of just 16.5 x 16.5 x 15.2 cm: even at high levels, they deliver a clear sound with a balanced frequency response. At the same time, unlike many larger monitors, they reproduce the signal faithfully even at low volumes.

1-way system as the perfect point source:

Auratone has returned one hundred per cent to its old virtues with this new release: This is not a successor model, but a new edition of the traditional Sound Cubes - including the legendary Auratone sound character. One reason why the passive reference speakers are so unique is the use of a single 4.5-inch full-range driver. This makes them an ideal point source, resulting in a particularly precise stereo image and excellent depth. Every sound event can be located exactly in both width and depth, and the mix unfolds optimally in all dimensions. This makes them the ideal tool for achieving perfect spatiality when mixing.

Linear frequency response and excellent mid-range reproduction:

The Auratone 5C monitors also owe their popularity to the fact that they are not a solution for the ivory tower - the sound cubes are rather robust everyday tools. In addition, their balanced frequency response and transparent sound uncompromisingly reveals every detail in the mix. Especially in the difficult mid-range, they offer an outstandingly clear sound that faithfully and honestly reproduces every nuance of the signal. This made them the reference in many studios 40 years ago, from film production and broadcast operations to classical recording studios. And even today, the legendary sound cubes continue to inspire the professional audio world with their unique characteristics.

Robust, high-quality workmanship 'Made in the USA':

The passive reference loudspeakers are manufactured in the USA using only the highest quality components. The compact housing is easy to transport and can be positioned extremely flexibly. Handling could not be simpler: There are just two screw terminals on the back, which are used to connect the passive speakers to an external power amplifier - and they are ready for use. To match the sound, the Auratones also have a classic vintage look, with the black veneer on the front and back elegantly framed by the mahogany veneer on the outside.

The Auratone 5C Super Sound Cubes are distributed exclusively by Audiowerk e. Kfm. in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and are available immediately from specialist retailers. The recommended retail price is 464.00 euros including VAT.

Auratone A2-30
Manufacturer:
Auratone activates the legendary Super Sound Cubes! The new Auratone A2-30 amplifier is precisely tuned to the small 5C sound cubes, which have already served as a reference for countless producers. For the first time, the famous loudspeakers can now be operated entirely with Auratone technology.Compact housing, neutral sound: Auratone A2-30The new A2-30 power amplifier from Auratone is inconspicuous on the outside. The two 30 watt outputs (into 8 ohms) are concealed in a black metal housing, the dimensions of which are based on the loudspeakers for which the amp was developed: 6.5 inches wide and 6 inches deep, but only one height unit high, the A2-30 occupies the same footprint as a 5C Super Sound Cube. Above all, however, the amplifier impresses with its sound, which emphasises the strengths of the popular speakers: neutral, transparent, honest. Mixing with Auratones means making reliable decisions, and this is precisely where the A2-30 supports the engineer.Minimal equipment, maximum effectAuratone remains true to the concept of the 5C Super Sound Cubes with the A2-30 and keeps the technology minimalistic: a power switch, a status LED with clipping indicator, a pair of XLR inputs and a set of screw terminals for connecting the passive speakers. The Class D amplifier reproduces signals cleanly and without colouration - simply the ideal partner for the 5C Super Sound Cubes. With optional rack wings, the A2-30 can also be seamlessly integrated into the rest of the studio peripherals.5C Super Sound Cubes: A legend is activatedSince the 1970s, the name Auratone has been an established name in recording studio equipment. Countless hit productions were perfected using the small passive full-range loudspeakers 5C Super Sound Cubes, and it is impossible to imagine countless metre bridges without the much-loved sound cubes. After production was discontinued in 1990, the originals have been available again since 2015 - and are still very popular today. The concept of a minimalist loudspeaker that acts as a point source, bringing astonishing transparency and spatiality as well as a helpful midrange focus to the production studio, remains as successful as ever. With the A2-30, the many existing and future fans worldwide no longer have to rely on amplification from other manufacturers, but can rely directly on the well-known strengths of Auratone.High-end manufacturing for the perfect view in the mixAuratone is only satisfied with the best. For the construction of the A2-30 amplifier, the American company sought out a partner whose name is synonymous with high-end audio: Bettermaker. The high-quality workmanship ensures that users can make reliable mixing decisions with their combination of 5C Super Sound Cubes and the A2-30 amp for many years to come.
