Whether you're creating field recordings, recording and mixing music or producing a podcast, the H8's colour touchscreen provides the right functions for your project with its three application-specific app-based user interfaces. All with a simple touch of your finger.

The podcast app:

The PODCAST app makes it easy to create high-quality productions. Thanks to the special sound pads, you can use the touch screen to trigger sound effects, start background music and much more. Choose from 13 high-quality sounds or use your own content from the SD card. (The podcast app supports up to four microphones and two sound pad channels)

The music app:

The MUSIC app gives you direct access to all important functions such as audio levels, faders, level meters and more. With 10 inputs and 12 recording tracks, even larger ensembles can be recorded with ease. Create mixes and overdubs and edit your recordings with EQ and compressor. Connect your recorder to our Zoom Guitar Lab software via USB and access a huge selection of amps and effects.

The Field app:

The FIELD app is the perfect solution for field recording, sound design, conferencing and much more. It provides direct access to large-format level meters for each track, so you can make sure your recordings don't overload. You can also quickly access the input type, high-pass filter, compressor, limiter, noise gate and other important settings.

The microphone capsule:

The H8 is supplied with the XYH-6 microphone. This capsule contains two matched unidirectional microphones to pick up sources placed directly in front of the recorder. The microphone capsules can be easily exchanged so that you can always use the right microphone for your application.

Next generation capsule system:

The Zoom Capsule System 2.0 allows you to connect up to four additional audio channels via the H8 capsule connector to expand your recording options.

Combined XY / AB microphone:

XAH-8

The XAH-8 capsule enables crystal-clear stereo recordings. The capsules can be easily aligned to switch between a compact XY arrangement and an AB alignment with extended stereo width.

Ambisonic microphone:

VRH-8

VRH-8 is an Ambisonic microphone capsule containing four condenser microphones for immersive 360° audio recording. An internal accelerometer ensures that the capsule is correctly aligned at all times, while the integrated Ambisonic decoder automatically performs the necessary conversions, saving time in post-production.

Expansion capsule:

EXH-8

The EXH-8 capsule offers four additional XLR inputs for a total of 10 connection options. Each additional input is equipped with its own gain control and pad switch. You can even use your favourite condenser microphones - simply connect a power supply to the EXH-8 capsule to provide phantom power.

Remote control:

You can monitor the level meters and trigger REC, PLAY and STOP independently of the H8 application mode. To do this, insert a BTA-1 into your H8 and connect it to your iOS device. (*BTA-1 optionally available.)

Inputs and outputs:

The H8 offers four XLR inputs with dedicated pad switches and gain controls. Two additional XLR/TRS combo sockets with Hi-Z switches allow you to record line signals, microphones or connect electric guitars and basses directly.

Use the integrated 3.5 mm headphone output for monitoring or feed the audio signal directly into your camera via the separate stereo line output.

Multi-channel audio interface:

The H8 is a powerful USB audio interface. Connect it to your PC, Mac, iPad or tablet via USB and use up to twelve recording channels simultaneously.

Recording time and file formats:

With just four AA batteries, you can achieve a recording time of up to 20 hours. For unlimited recording time, use the (optionally available) AD-17 power supply unit.

The H8 creates BWF-compatible WAV and MP3 files in the following formats:

Free software for recording and editing:

The H8 comes with licences for a free download of Steinberg Cubase LE music production software and WaveLab Cast editor software.

WaveLab Cast supports you in finalising your project with a wide range of comprehensive editing, mixing and refining tools.

Podcasting:

WaveLab Cast connects you directly to podcast directories, such as Spreaker or Podbean*. You can quickly upload episodes and create and publish RSS feeds directly.

Audio for video:

Import your video file and WaveLab Cast automatically extracts the audio. You can use the editing tools to reduce unwanted noise, change levels and remove loud sibilance. With the metering options you can create new tracks, fade in your music, use EQ and compression. WaveLab Cast's export functions allow you to reattach the audio track to the video file.

Field Recording:

WaveLab Cast supports audio quality up to 96KHz and includes a high-end re-sampler. RestoreRig removes noise and unwanted sounds. Use the snap functions and crossfade options to create new files. When you're done, export your sound files to any popular audio format.
