Developed on the Walrus MDSP platform for first-class DSP performance with analogue sound

The DFX-1 is a multi-effects unit designed in collaboration with Aaron Sterling to add musical character and punch to any acoustic drum or percussion source. With studio-quality VCA and FET compression, two sonic presets each for delay and reverb, plus saturation, gating, an FX loop and flexible EQ, you can create everything from subtle to flashy drum sounds. The DFX-1 can be used anywhere in the drum kit, with any microphone, whether it's a room mic, a close mic, or an outboard signal from post-production. With a powerful microphone preamp with phantom power, an FX loop for connecting external effects, MIDI connection and presets, a whole new world of sonic creativity is available on the drum kit.

The DFX-1 is based on three main effects - Compression, Delay and Reverb, each with two preset timbres so you can switch smoothly between vintage character and modern clarity. Use the Tilt EQ and Saturation effect for further sound shaping. In addition, pedals or outboard gear can be looped into the FX loop and effects can be routed in different order to achieve radically different results.

Compression (VCA / FET)

- VCA: Emulates the characteristic VCA compression of the API 2500 to amplify the punch and "glue" the mix together.

- FET: Emulates the classic 1176 FET compressor with fast attack and release for powerful dynamics.

Delay (Vintage / Modern)

- Vintage: Warm, analogue tape delay.

- Modern: Offers a tasteful digital delay with clearer repeats.

Reverb (Spring / Plate)

- Spring: Captures the lively character of a classic spring reverb.

- Plate (Modern): Emulates a plate reverb, wide diffusion for a polished studio ambience

An integrated noise gate eliminates unwanted background noise from the signal. Settings for threshold, hold time and release time via the OLED display.

The three pads allow quick and easy operation of the DFX-1 in a live environment, either with a drumstick or your fingers.

- Pad A (Bypass): Toggle Bypass (LED Off=Bypassed, LED On=Enabled).

- Pad B (Preset Cycle): Cycles through presets in groups of 3 based on the selection in the preset menu. Up to 128 presets can be recalled via the preset menu and via MIDI. Presets can also be copied and pasted into different slots via the preset menu.

- Pad C (Tap Tempo): "Tap" here to set the delay time (BPM). The sub-divisions can be set to quarter notes, quarter triplets, eighth notes, sixteenth notes and dotted eighth notes via the delay menu.
