The KSM42 is a premium large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a double diaphragm. It was developed for demanding vocal recordings in professional studios. The KSM42 combines a very wide "sweet spot" with an exceptionally controllable proximity effect.
The KSM42 has been consistently designed for professional studio vocal recordings. The double diaphragm of the KSM42 ensures an extremely constant cardioid characteristic over the entire frequency response. The result is a very wide "sweet spot" with an exceptionally controllable proximity effect and an extremely consistent sound below 1000 Hz. A maximum sound pressure level of 139 dB and the natural bass roll-off make an attenuator and the high-pass filter superfluous.
The KSM42 utilises Prethos Advanced Preamplifier Technology. A new milestone in amplifier circuit technology, Prethos incorporates an internal circuit architecture that allows unprecedentedly transparent sound reproduction. It enables extremely low self-noise, a very high dynamic range and outstanding transient response.
The KSM42 is supplied with a spider and a pop screen. The special feature is the attachment of the pop shield. It is not attached to the microphone stand in the traditional way, but is attached directly to the spider of the KSM42 using a magnet. As well as being quick and easy to set up, the advantage of this is that the distance between the spider and microphone is always identical.
The KSM42 is equipped with first-class electronic components such as the two ultra-thin (2.5 µm) and 24 k gold-coated Mylar diaphragms with low mass. Internal and external connections are also gold-plated.
