The BL8 is a semi-cardioid boundary microphone that uses the same capsule as the famous sE8 small-diaphragm condenser microphone. Its handcrafted condenser capsule features an ultra-thin, gold-plated diaphragm measuring just three micrometres, delivering outstanding impulse response. The BL8 has been designed to reproduce low frequencies with astonishing accuracy and is perfect for use in combination with the V Kick, though it can also be used on its own without an additional kick drum microphone. It is also compatible with the Kelly Shu Flatz Isolation System, making it ideal for touring applications.

The BL8 utilises a transformerless Class A circuit, which provides ample headroom without distortion and low-noise electronics for transparency and clarity. The built-in low-cut filter and the optional EQ-shaping switch make it a highly versatile microphone, excellent for ambient recordings and detailed room miking, and it can even be used for miking pianos. Thanks to the switchable attenuator, the BL8 prevents sources with high sound pressure levels from overloading your mixing desk’s input.

The BL8 is robustly built and features an all-metal construction, a distortion-resistant grille and gold-plated XLR connectors to ensure long-term reliability.

The ideal studio kick drum sound often differs from our preferences in a live sound environment. Much like the award-winning V Kick kick drum microphone, the BL8 offers ‘Classic’ and ‘Modern’ voicings. These options trim and shape the low-midrange to emphasise transients and punch. In the middle position, the capsule’s neutral frequency response is preserved, making it ideal for a wide range of other applications.
