Sound tradition meets modernity
The Rupert Neve Designs Newton Channel is a modern channel strip that has evolved from a legendary sound tradition. It offers classic sound at the touch of a button, with the unmistakable character, musical sound shaping capabilities and proven reliability that characterise a Rupert Neve Designs product.
The Newton Channel features a Class A mic preamp with a switchable high-pass filter, a musical 3-band discrete EQ with LF and HF shelving and a fully parametric mid-band, a fast and flexible VCA compressor and Rupert Neve Designs transformer-coupled outputs with RND's popular harmonic colour stage: variable Silk Red & Blue. The Newton Channel's input stage accepts both mic and line level signals. The Newton Channel also has 48V phantom power. If this is required by a connected microphone, it can be conveniently switched on using a button. The device also offers the option of being linked to a second Newton, allowing it to be used for stereo processing.
The compressor can be placed before or after the EQ and both the EQ and the compressor can be completely bypassed via switches on the front panel. Like many other recent Rupert Neve Designs products, the Newton Channel also offers both main and -6dB outputs (each balanced three-pin XLR output). The -6dB output allows the Newton to be fully driven to achieve more transformer harmonics without overdriving the next device in the chain. Paired with the variable Silk Red and Blue modes to boost musically relevant harmonic content across two different frequency ranges, the Newton offers a variety of sonic colouration options, ranging from clean and transparent to exaggerated vintage tones.
