Piano Reality – expressive piano sound

The Piano Reality sound engine forms the basis for the piano sound of the Roland FP-40. With up to 256 simultaneously playable voices, the digital piano offers sufficient capacity even for complex passages. High polyphony is particularly advantageous when using the sustain pedal and when playing dense chords.

A total of 305 internal sounds are available. 40 sounds can be selected directly on the instrument, whilst a further 265 sounds are accessible via the Roland Piano App. In addition to various piano sounds, this also includes electric pianos, organ sounds and other sounds for a range of musical applications.

The sound can be adjusted using the Ambience and Brilliance controls. The Roland Piano App further expands the possibilities with the Piano Designer functions. These allow you to adjust, amongst other things, the lid, string resonance, damper resonance, key-off resonance and cabinet resonance. Individual notes can also be adjusted in terms of pitch, volume and tone character.

88 weighted keys with PHA-4 Standard keyboard

To ensure the most natural playing experience possible, the Roland FP-40 is equipped with the PHA-4 Standard keyboard. The 88 keys feature hammer action, escapement and an Ivory Feel surface. The keyboard is therefore designed for controlled and nuanced playing.

The touch sensitivity can be adjusted across five levels or set to a fixed touch sensitivity. Functions such as Dual, Split and Twin Piano also enable a variety of playing styles. For example, two sounds can be combined, different sounds can be assigned to different keyboard ranges, or two players can practise on the instrument using the same range.

Stereo speakers and headphone ambience

The Roland FP-40’s built-in speaker system consists of two 8 x 12 cm speakers, each housed in its own speaker cabinet. With an output power of 2 x 12 watts, the digital piano is equipped for playing without additional amplification.

For practising with headphones, the FP-40 offers Piano Reality Headphones Ambience. This allows you to enjoy a more spatial sound experience even when playing silently.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB-C

The Roland FP-40 is designed to connect to the latest mobile devices and computers. Bluetooth 5.4 supports both audio playback and MIDI communication. The built-in Wi-Fi allows you to use the features of compatible Roland apps.

The USB-C port is particularly versatile. It supports USB MIDI and USB audio and can power compatible smartphones via USB Power Delivery. A USB-A port is also available for storage media.

Standard MIDI files, as well as WAV and MP3 files, can be played back via a USB storage device. A built-in MIDI recorder also allows you to record a song.
