A dynamic microphone specially developed for voice applications, which is ideal for podcasts, streaming and for use in broadcast, radio play and dubbing studios: it sounds detailed, full, silky and balanced. Thanks to the XLR and USB connection, the PodMic USB White can be used flexibly. Either in the classic way via XLR with a good preamp/audio interface or digitally via the USB-C socket with the microphone signal into a computer or a smart or iPhone®.
The audio interface built into the PodMic USB White is first-class - with an ultra-low-noise high-gain preamp and audiophile A/D converters. The DSP chip built into the PodMic USB White is spectacular and extremely helpful. This allows the speaker signal to be given a highly professional sound in the microphone with a high-pass filter, noise gate, compressor and Aphex®.
To the left of the USB-C connection is a 3.5 mm headphone socket so that you can hear yourself without latency during recording (direct monitoring). The headphone volume control has an integrated push button that can be used to switch from direct monitoring to computer signal. An LED under the USB-C connection indicates the respective status: green=microphone signal (direct monitoring) and red=signal from the computer or mobile device.
Weighing just under 1 kg, the PodMic USB White has a fork mount that allows it to be attached to a table stand or microphone arm and then conveniently aligned towards the speaker. There is no need to use a spider, the microphone capsule itself is elastically suspended and the swivelling mount is internally decoupled from the body so that there are no problems with structure-borne noise. The PodMic USB White is used from the front, a distance of approx. 3 to 20 cm is ideal. As a dynamic microphone, the PodMic USB White is much less sensitive than a condenser microphone - ideal for studios and recording rooms where ambient noise is a problem.
The PodMic USB White can be updated with the latest firmware using the free RØDE Central configuration software. RØDE Central is also used to make the desired DSP settings in the microphone. Once made, the selected settings are retained.
Note: Due to its special circuitry, the PodMic USB White does not tolerate phantom power via XLR. Although it does not break, it delivers a level that is far too low when 48 volts are applied. This is not a defect. If you want to use the PodMic USB White in analogue mode via XLR with an audio interface (there is absolutely no reason not to), you should make sure that phantom power is not activated at the relevant input.
The housing of the PodMic USB White is made of solid brass, the double-layered microphone capsule is made of stainless steel. The microphone is manufactured at RØDE's headquarters in Silverwater, Sydney. It comes with an attachable foam pop shield and a 3 metre USB-C to USB-C cable.
