The Radial JDX is a DI box designed specifically for use with guitar amplifiers, enabling sound engineers to capture the sound produced by the combination of a guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet using innovative dummy load inputs and advanced speaker simulation.

Peter Janis, President of Radial, explains: “Guitarists are used to placing a microphone directly in front of their guitar amplifier to capture the guitar sound for the PA or recording system. This method is problematic because when the microphone is positioned so close to the speaker cone, even the slightest change in its position causes a drastic alteration in the fundamental tone. Compounding this are the effects of room acoustics, which vary depending on the stage environment. The availability of a second, more reliable signal source enables the sound engineer to achieve a working system more quickly, thereby minimising uncertainties during live performance and allowing the audience to enjoy a better, more consistent sound."

In keeping with Radial’s philosophy of uncompromising performance, the Radial JDX features a fully discrete Class A signal path with an active, balanced pre-amplifier, ensuring optimal sound transmission from the amplifier to the sound system. Integration is made very simple via "from amp" and "to speaker" connections. A balanced XLR output at microphone level allows connection to mixing desks and features ground isolation to prevent ground loops, as well as a switchable 180° phase shift to resolve polarity issues.

Janis continues: “With the announcement of the Radial PhazeT, we are completing our range for ‘guitar amp, microphone and direct signal’. When a microphone signal is combined with a direct signal, it follows the latter with a slight time delay, as it is delayed by the air path between the speaker cone and the microphone. The Phazer allows the fundamental frequencies of both signals to be synchronised, resulting in a significantly more powerful sound. Once you’ve found the ‘sweet spot’, your guitar tone will sound noticeably more massive! I am certain that this feature will be highly valued by more discerning musicians on tour, particularly given the widespread use of digital mixing desks and in-ear monitoring systems. Many bands today even skip soundchecks because the entire monitor sound is played through their headphones! The JDX brings a new level of consistency to the live sound, making the nightly setup of a fully operational system even easier and faster."

Like all Radial DI boxes, the JDX is constructed from 2mm sheet steel and features a unique I-beam internal structure that guarantees reliable operation for years to come, even in the harsh realities of daily stage use. A non-slip, full-surface rubber base prevents the JDX from falling off a double-decker Marshall amp, whilst also providing electrical insulation to protect against the notorious chassis screws of a high-voltage tube amplifier. The JDX comes with an external 15V DC power supply.
