The legend is finally available again! The long-awaited M 50 V is a new edition of the last revision of the 1960s, the M 50 c. Over the years, the M 50 has been continuously improved: The original Hiller tube MSC2 was replaced by the Telefunken tube AC701 and later by the AC701k. These and other circuit changes improved the signal-to-noise ratio, dynamic range and interference immunity. At the same time, the M 250 radio version was introduced with an HF-tight connector.

The M 50 V is a faithful reissue of the historic M 50 microphones that Neumann produced from 1951 to 1971. It utilises the same acoustic concept with an omnidirectional small diaphragm capsule flush-mounted in a 40 mm acrylic sphere. This design produces a unique directivity pattern that is spherical at low frequencies and gradually becomes more directional above 1000 Hz. At the same time, the frequency response shows a gentle rise towards the upper frequencies, which compensates for the drop in treble in the diffuse field and gives the microphone more "range". As a true pressure transducer, the M 50 has a powerful bass response down to the lowest frequencies, without proximity effect. At the same time, its increasing directivity at higher frequencies provides optimal imaging in stereo, surround and immersive configurations.

Over the production life of the historic M 50, various capsule types with different diaphragm materials have been used. The M 50 V uses an improved version of the most popular capsule type, the K 53 with an ultra-thin metal diaphragm, which is known for its extremely fast and precise transient response. The K 33 Ti in the M 50 V uses the same capsule acoustics as the coveted K 53, but with a metal diaphragm made of titanium. As a lightweight yet strong material, titanium is an ideal material for a metal diaphragm and contributes to the M 50 V's outstanding transient response. Titanium also offers outstanding long-term stability. The entire K 33 Ti capsule, including the counter electrode and the housing, is made of titanium, resulting in an ideal match in terms of mechanical and temperature stability.

The M 50 V uses the same circuit as the M 50 c, but with an even lower noise subminiature tube. This tube has already proven its exquisite sonic qualities in the M 49 V, where it is used in an almost identical circuit. As high-frequency interference has increased dramatically in recent years due to mobile phone networks and WLAN, the HF-tight connection has been adopted from the M 250.

The NM V power supply unit supplied is designed to automatically provide the optimum heating voltage for both the M 50 V and any historical M 50; it also automatically adapts to the local mains voltage. As the same NM V power supply unit is also used for the M 49 V, it has a control to regulate the directional characteristic, which of course has no effect on the M 50 V with its fixed spherical capsule. This power supply can also be used for all historical Neumann microphones with a Telefunken AC701 tube.

In addition, the M 50 V set includes the iconic "Yoke" fork mount, whose flexible positioning has contributed to the great popularity of the M 50. As an improvement on the historic fork mount, the new version has been supplemented with elements for mechanical decoupling of the microphone and a cable holder to suppress cable-bound structure-borne noise. The M 50 V-Set is supplied in a high-quality case which, like the entire microphone, is handmade in Germany.
