The phase8 is a truly extraordinary musical instrument based on the principle of acoustic synthesis developed by KORG - a completely rethought sound generation that cannot be assigned to the two typical camps of "analogue" or "digital", as it is based on physical bodies and haptic interaction. Eight differently tuned metal resonators are set in vibration by electromagnetic impulses and can thus be modulated in their sound and volume progressions via physical controls. Tools such as envelope shaping, sequencing, analogue wavefolding and pitch-dependent modulation are available for this purpose. As if that wasn't enough, the sound behaviour of the resonators can be changed from subtle to fundamental by touching, tapping, plucking or contact with other objects, which means that there are practically no limits to creativity in sound design. Thanks to the open structure of the instrument, the resonators are accessible for spontaneous manipulation at any time and can also be easily exchanged for other resonators if required. Five additional resonators are already included in the scope of delivery, allowing the phase8 to be used with different scales. The integrated sequencer can be programmed via steps or used for live recording. All phase8 parameters can be recorded within a sequence, which can make for particularly lively animations. As the sequencer works polyphonically and can also skip individual steps if required, it is also suitable for complex, polymetric rhythms. Thanks to its support for standard MIDI, USB MIDI and CV, the phase8 can be easily integrated into a wide variety of device setups. Thanks to its unique concept, which allows the player and his environment to become part of the actual sound generation, the phase8 is a fascinating and inspiring instrument for creating new immersive acoustic worlds.
