In the history of the legendary Les Paul sound, the 1957 Goldtop marks a fundamental change in tone: the introduction of the ‘humbucker pickup’. This lovingly designed reissue has been meticulously crafted to perfectly replicate the exquisite, full-bodied sound of the early PAF humbuckers – and the specially wired, unpotted Alnico 3 Custombucker pickups certainly deliver it. The rare combination of revolutionary electronics with the substantial ’50s Rounded C neck profile, the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, the slim and narrow frets and the iconic Goldtop styling (complete with top-hat knobs) gives this version of the classic Les Paul the look, feel and endlessly resonant sound of the original 1957 model.
