As a high-performance variant of the 490T, Gibson’s 498T humbucker combines the more powerful response of an Alnico-5magnet with additional, symmetrically wound coils, shifting the focus to the pickup’s upper mid-range frequencies – for more crunch and sustain. The 498T is perfect for any hard rock application and effortlessly drives amplifiers into overdrive – delivering a powerful, crackling tone that enhances the power and presence of any guitar.
The pole pieces of the 498T are also spaced slightly further apart to account for the string spacing at the bridge, which differs from that at the neck. This helps to produce powerful solos and a fat rhythm sound without compromising the definition of individual notes. The 498T features shielded four-conductor wiring for series, parallel or split-coil operation and is fully potted with wax to eliminate any microphonic feedback.
