Leland “Lee” Sklar earned himself a firm place in the music world with his flawless groove and exceptional understanding of melodic line. His basslines can be heard on some of the most important records of all time, including those by James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins and many other artists. Always by his side: his customised Precision Bass® with its soulful tone and unmistakable character.
Sklar transformed his Precision Bass into something new. First, he stripped back the bare wood and let it collect its marks. Every imperfection on the body represents a moment on tour or in the studio. He fitted a Hipshot® BT3 Bass Xtender™ and extended the range downwards, along with two EMG® Active Lee Sklar P pickups for a particularly clear, loud tone, a Badass™ II bridge for long sustain and precise intonation, and a new Precision Bass neck, which he had sanded down to Jazz Bass dimensions and fitted with mandolin frets. This resulted in a sensationally smooth playing feel. The bass became as unique as the man who plays it.
The Fender Lee Sklar Precision Bass® captures this character. With this model, we pay tribute to one of the busiest studio and live bassists in history. A seasoned, outstanding musician whose feel, taste and tone have shaped the sound of pop music for more than five decades.
