The Fender American Vintage II series is not only visually inspired by the historic designs that have made music history. We have also faithfully reproduced many period-specific details: bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes, as well as pickups that have been carefully tuned to match the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, every instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of its respective original model.
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Fender musical instruments enjoyed steadily growing popularity. Although there were already several models in our range at that time, the Stratocaster ® was the queen. By 1961, its design had been refined. It was given a new 3-Colour Sunburst with a more vibrant red and wider black edges, as well as a three-ply pickguard to emphasise the famous Strat curves.
With its premium alder body, three Pure Vintage 1961 Stratocaster pickups and a maple neck in a ‘Medium C’ profile with a 7.25” radius rosewood slab fingerboard, the American Vintage II 1961 Stratocaster radius, delivers the tone and feel of the original. Further details: historically accurate synchronised tremolo with cold-rolled steel block and curved steel saddles, ‘Fender Deluxe’ single-line tuners, three-ply pickguard.
