The ESP-RA™ is Evidence Audio's first solderable 1/4" jack plug and (like all our products) was designed with the primary goal of sounding demonstrably better than anything else in its class.
What class does it fall into? Its compact size and angled format makes it particularly suitable for use with smaller cables, especially on pedalboards. Cables with an outer diameter of 4 to 5 mm, i.e. around 0.155".
The current spate of connectors used to solder patch cables to a guitar pedalboard typically use a steel nail or pot metal to conduct the audio signal. Ferrous. Magnetic. While these plugs are compact for pedalboards, they economise by using inferior metals to transmit the audio. They are more affordable but have significantly lower audio quality.
