The founder and president of Electro-Harmonix, Mike Matthews, and serial inventor Bob Myer have known each other for a long time. Together, they designed the very first Big Muff and worked together throughout the history of EHX. Bob was known for constantly providing Mike with new designs to keep up with the latest technology. In the course of this process, some designs were selected, while others were set aside and forgotten. The Big Muff Pi 2 dual op-amp design was one that did not make it into production in the late 1970s and was promptly filed away in Bob's files. During an interview with Bob in his old workshop, EHX devotees Josh Scott (of JHS Pedals) and Daniel Danger discovered this novel circuit design as a hand-drawn schematic in Bob's old notes. Josh set about deciphering the original schematic and resurrected the circuit as the Big Muff Pi 2.
