The BOSS OC-5 combines classic BOSS octave sounds with the latest tracking technology, setting a new standard for octave pedals. The Vintage mode is a precise recreation of the legendary OC-2 mono pedal from 1982. In polyphonic mode, the OC-5 shines with numerous improvements and an extended range. What’s more, the Octave-Up function lets you utilise up to three octaves, opening up new creative possibilities. From rich, deep mono sounds to octaved chords and more – the OC-5 offers the widest range, the highest sound quality and the best playability of any octave pedal on the market.
Classic sounds with Vintage mode
The OC-2 was launched in 1982 and is regarded as the world’s first modern octave pedal for guitar and bass. To this day, musicians love the pedal’s sound, which is both warm and present; it sits perfectly in the mix and can be heard on countless hits thanks to its unmistakable character. With Vintage Mode, the legendary mono sound is also available on the OC-5 – and thanks to the new tracking engine, it now features even improved response. With dedicated level controls for the -1 and -2 octave effects and the direct signal, you have complete control over the vast range of sub-octave timbres at all times.
Advanced polyphonic mode
The OC-5 features an enhanced polyphonic mode. First introduced on the OC-3 Super Octave, this allows you to play chords with octave effects. The versatile Range control limits the effect to the lower notes of your instrument – perfect for octaved bass lines combined with traditional chord and melody playing in the higher registers. Furthermore, thanks to optimised tracking, you can limit the octave effect to just the lowest note of a chord by setting the Range control to ‘Lowest’.
Guitar/Bass switch and Direct Out
Using the dedicated switch on the underside of the pedal, you can tailor the performance of the OC-5’s tracking engine to either guitar or bass. In addition, the Direct Out output allows you to easily route the original and effect signals to different destinations, such as two stage amplifiers or two separate channels on a mixing desk or audio interface.
