With the OC7, the Austrian manufacturer presents a true condenser microphone with an innovative "swivel joint" mechanism.
Sound engineers and musicians are certainly familiar with the problem of microphone stands that are screwed on too tightly and can hardly be reached in the stand forest. Once you have finally solved this problem, they lose their position completely - just because you wanted to change the microphone angle by a few degrees. To make it easier to position the instrument microphone, Austrian Audio's engineers have developed a suspension system for the microphone basket that allows it to rotate 220°. This allows the microphone to be aligned precisely to the sound source or according to personal sound preferences without having to laboriously adjust or loosen the microphone stand. Various annoyances such as microphones falling over or fingers getting caught on the microphone stand are now a thing of the past.
Precise directional characteristics are a prerequisite for accurate and precise alignment of a microphone. The microphone basket and the suspension of the capsule are designed in such a way that acoustic interference is avoided. Thanks to the Open Acoustics technology, sound from the rear can also penetrate the capsule, resulting in an extremely precise cardioid characteristic. This "linear cardioid" means that not only sound coming from the front but also from the rear or side sounds good and unaltered. This means that even the sometimes unavoidable cross-talk from other instruments sounds good.
The true condenser capsule of the OC7 is perfectly protected by the microphone basket and can therefore be positioned without hesitation even where the microphone is exposed to shocks. The OC7 is equipped with a second-order high-pass filter with an operating frequency of 40 or 80 Hz. A -10dB pad, which leads to a lower sensitivity by reducing the capsule voltage, allows the microphone to be used in front of the loudest sound sources. With an outstanding max. 154 dB SPL (>160 dB SPL with pad), the OC7 is extremely resistant to overload.
Thanks to its open and transparent sound, the OC7 is also a very flexible instrument microphone. Due to the strengths of the OCC7 small diaphragm capsule, which is handmade in Vienna, it is ideally suited for all instruments that have particularly lively transients. This includes all types of percussion instruments including snare and toms on drums, but also piano and acoustic guitar. The open, silky sound is also an excellent match for string instruments.
