The Tascam DR-07X is a digital handheld recorder and USB audio interface based on the popular, high-performance Tascam DR-07. Ideal for music recording, sound design and other tasks, the DR-07X offers powerful features and superior audio quality despite its compact size. It features a pair of adjustable cardioid condenser microphones that can handle high sound pressure levels and can be used either in XY configuration for particularly clean recordings with low phase shift or in AB orientation for a wider stereo field. A dedicated microphone or line-level source can also be connected via a stereo mini jack socket, which also provides a power supply for small microphones if required. And thanks to the increased capacity with microSDXC cards up to 128 gigabytes, the DR-07X can actually record for several days at a time.
The user interface is multilingual and easy to understand - recordings are easily accessible and level settings are just as simple at the touch of a button as deleting takes, adding markers or other frequently used tasks. The menus are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Russian, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. In addition to manual levelling, there are three different automatic functions to choose from (limiter, peak reduction, auto level), which can help to avoid distortion during recording. Users can apply one of six reverb effects to the input or output signal and add speech, vocals or instruments to existing recordings using the overdub function. There is also an automatic level levelling function that can compensate for sudden volume jumps during playback and an in-built speaker for quickly checking recordings. Other features such as variable speed, depth filters, a chromatic tuning function and others are also accessible via the menu.
The new dictation mode simplifies skipping forwards and backwards during playback at pre-set time intervals. It can be combined with the variable speed and a special voice EQ, which is helpful when transcribing recorded meeting minutes, for example. The new overwrite recording function allows you to set an entry point from which an existing recording is overwritten in the same way as with a conventional tape recorder.
In addition to recording on the move, the DR-07X can also be used as a USB audio interface with two inputs and outputs. This makes it a powerful tool for dubbing, live streaming, podcasting and composing in studio quality.
