The Allen Xone:K2 is a combination of MIDI controller and audio interface with an internal 4-channel sound card. The K2 features a configurable MIDI interface with three-colour LED lighting, a USB power supply and the company's own X:LINK interface for perfect interaction with other devices in the Xone series.
Developed for seamless communication with all MIDI-capable DAW applications, the K2 can be used as a controller for popular DJ software applications such as Ableton, Traktor Pro and Serato Scratch Live. 52 physical controllers are available to the user - the package includes 12 analogue and 6 endless rotary knobs with push-button function, 4 linear faders and 30 backlit buttons. In total, the K2 offers up to 171 different MIDI controller commands distributed over three layers. The MIDI interface of the K2 can be freely configured by the user.
The K2 has a high-quality, internal 4-channel sound card that can be operated at 44.1 and 48 kHz. If all four channels are addressed from the computer to the K2 and two stereo channels are sent, one stereo channel can be used for the headphone path and the other for the master outputs L and R. In this way, the headphone mix can be created independently of the master output. In addition, the sound card has its own 3.5 mm headphone socket and a master out, designed as a cinch socket.
Two K2 controllers can be connected via Allen's proprietary X:LINK protocol to double the controller range. X:LINK uses a standard RJ45 plug connection and provides both the power supply and the data transmission. In this way, two K2 controllers can be connected to the DAW via a single USB port.
The housing of the Xone:K2 is made of a robust plastic base plate and a steel top, to which the rotary controls are screwed with steel nuts. This ensures both a low overall weight and high durability of the device. The K2 is supplied in an attractive and robust transport case, which serves as a double function as a support surface on the one hand and significantly increases comfort for the travelling DJ on the other.
